In Iranian criminal policy system that follows the Islamic criminal policy system, father and grandfather are exempted from retaliation in the intentional killing of their children. In Iran and other Islamic countries which implement this rule, the ever increasing number of children killed by fathers and grandfathers demonstrates that inhibitors have not been effective for dealing with this crime. A deeper understanding of the origins of this exemption in jurisprudence shows that the exemption is not absolute, and in some cases, the fathers must be sentenced to capital punishment.
